History:

Northside Veterinary Hospital first opened for business in 1952, the day after the founder Dr. Joseph A. Verschueren graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University.  For many years, Dr. Verschueren divided his days between meat inspection, farm calls for large animals, and small animal medicine.  In 1983 Dr. Verschueren sold the practice to his stepson, Dr. Thomas Peterson.

Since then, there have been many families and their pets through the doors of the hospital.  The current building was finished in the summer of 1997.

July 1st of 2007, Dr. Eric Peterson purchased the practice from Dr. Thomas Peterson when he retired from small animal medicine.  Some of the faces have changed, but we will continue to strive to provide the highest quality of veterinary medicine to our patients.

The syringe-a recognized landmark since the early 1950's.

Staff:

Dr. Eric D. Peterson: Dr. Peterson, no relation to Dr. Tom Peterson, is a North Muskegon native and graduated from North Muskegon High School.  After high school he went to Albion College, then off to Michigan State University for the remainder of undergraduate and veterinary school.  During undergraduate studies at MSU, Dr. Peterson started working at Northside and found that it was a great fit.  Upon graduation in 2003 from veterinary school, he started working as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) here at Northside.  At home, Dr. Peterson enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Marisa and their two cats, Norm and Cliff.

Dr. Beth Anne LaPointe: Dr. Beth Anne LaPointe joined the staff here at Northside April 2007. As a minister's daughter, she lived in several small towns in West Michigan while growing up. She attended high school in Ionia, MI, where she met her husband of 20 years, Steve.  She received her bachelor degree from Albion College and then moved to Chicago-land where she practiced as a licensed nursing home administrator for 10 years.  Dr. LaPointe had a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian, and in August of 2001, finished her career as a nursing home administrator and was accepted into Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine.  She had received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in May 2005, and practiced for a year in Winfield, IL.  She is very excited to be back in the Michigan area near the lake, which allows her two wonderful children, Kari Beth, 16, and Kyle, 13, to enjoy the beach. Dr. LaPointe is not sure who is in charge of the household, their three cats, Pantera, Sugar, and Inky or the family.  She is looking forward to meeting you and your pets.

Dr. Stacy Fournier: Dr. Stacy Fournier joined the Northside staff in June 2009. Having family roots in Oceana County but having grown up in Austin, Texas, she attended Texas A&M University as an undergraduate. Following an undergraduate study-abroad year in England, she began veterinary school at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.  Stacy spent three years after graduation from vet school working at a veterinary practice in Ludington prior to joining us here at Northside.   She was married to her husband Matt in 2007, and they have a home in Ludington close to the lake, which they share with a boxer dog and three-legged cat. They enjoy spending time with their countless relatives in the area, getting out to the Ludington state park, the beach, and working on home and yard projects. She’s delighted to be a part of the Northside veterinary team!

Eve M Pattyn: Eve was hired as our Practice Manager in October, 2008.  Eve has her Bachelor's Degree from Grand Valley State University in Business Management.  She also has fourteen years management experience in the service industry. She is married to Jeff, with two children Grace, 6 and Kole, 4.  Her family has two dogs, Chase who is a shih tzu mix with pug and a English bulldog.

Kara Hanis, LVT: Kara is a 2006 graduate of the Veterinary Technology program at Baker College in Muskegon.  She has two crazy whirlwinds at home named Gracie and Lizzie.  They are both Blue Heelers so they keep her very busy!  Kara was born and raised in the Muskegon area.  In her free time when not with her dogs, she spends time with family and friends.  She has taken a special interest in canine and feline behavior and hopes to further her understanding in this area of medicine.

Robin (Bobbi) Stauffer: Bobbi is a veterinary assistant and has worked at Northside for 32 years.  She graduated from Whitehall High school and then earned a degree in interior design from Baker College in Muskegon.  She has two cats (Gabrielle and Coal), a rabbit (Bun), a guinea pig (Max), and 6 fish (Rod, Reel, Bobber, Sinker, Spinner, and Dot); she also raises chickens.

Karla Pearcy: Karla has been an assistant here at Northside since 2001.  She grew up in the North Muskegon area and continues to reside here.  She is working on her degree in Laboratory Technology.  She has three dogs, Kosmopolitan (a Cocker Spaniel), Rocko (a Labradoodle), and Kaptain (Golden Retriever).  In her free time she like to boat and spend as much time in the outdoors as possible.

Lisa George: Lisa has been a part-time receptionist for us for 21 years.  She has two children and two step-children.  Along with the children, Lisa has a dog, a cat, a bird, a guinea pig and 2 aqua baby frogs.  Lisa and her husband Mike are Harley Davidson enthusiasts.  Last year Lisa received her motorcycle endorsement and she is currently riding a 1998 Fatboy and Mike rides a 2006 Roadking.  Lisa also sells Pampered Chef products on the side.

Chandra Lewis: Chandra (CJ) has been a receptionist with us since April 2007.  She grew up in the White Lake area.  She is the parent of young twin girls and her household also includes two cats and a dachshund named Mini and a boxer named Dozer.

Jamie Medema: Jamie has recently come back to us after a stint away.  She has worked with us for the last eight years as a veterinary assistant and now has broadened her roll to include receptionist.  Jamie and her husband Mark have a Border Collie mix named Charlie, and a Weimeraner named JoAnna who relentlessly pursue their cat Ace.  She has recently adopted 2 more barn cats to complete the household.  Mark and Jamie are recently married.  Once things settle down, Jamie plans to pursue her education and become a licensed veterinary technician.
